Jacky Niven - Chair and Founder of SABAB

I returned to painting in 2006 after a break of over 15 years. My inspiration has come from observing the ever-changing moods of the landscape, seasons and climate during my meanderings around Aberdeenshire. My work blends colour and texture, sometimes I like to use imagery taken from nature, folklore and mythology as illustrated in this picture called Kelpies.
Kate MacKenzie

I create bright, colourful paintings using acrylics and mixed media. Much of my work is inspired by the beautiful countryside, coastline and castles of Aberdeenshire and the stunning city of Edinburgh. Through the use of unusual colours I like to give a fresh twist to scenes that may be otherwise familiar. I also enjoy more abstract work, and these paintings tend to feature quirky hills, boats, sheep and trees.
Angela ArnoldMinutes Secretary

I have been painting in South Aberdeenshire since 2001, often inspired by the local land- and seascape: the view of big skies and changeable seas from the cliffs of coastal Kinneff, where I live, or the deep red earth of the north Mearns.
In my semi-abstract land/seascapes my aim is to create either a sense of stillnes, or else of motion (often linked with the emotion evoked) – and maybe these are not so much opposites as two sides of the same coin, seeking the core of the subject.
I do vibrant 'colourscapes'; stark black-and-white abstractions that contain only a few lines; and occasionally abstracts inspired by music.

Pam Hamilton

I have been painting in the North-East of Scotland for around 10 years
The main element in my painting is colour, using mainly bright‚ textured acrylics.
My subject matter ranges from local landscapes to flowers‚ semi-abstracts to the purely decorative

Bern Ross - Publicity Officer

My interests are colours within colour, textures within a surface, shapes within a shape … so that the closer you look, the more there is to discover. The interesting bits develop from mistakes and experiments. I create in many disciplines, resisting realism, transforming reality, a constant need to express ...something.
I work large and messy. Landscape, the human form and surrealism interest me, as do colours, textures, and the juxtapositions of toy-like shapes in towns.
Working with different materials gives me that all-important ‘distance’ on my work so that there’s always something to work on and a ‘next stage’ waiting to be done.
Gay Halley

I am an artist who enjoys using all media, love colour and enjoys working from the very abstract through to expressive figure and landscape work

Pauline Newman   - Vice Chair

I was born in Liverpool and moved to Scotland in 1991. I always wanted to go to art school, but it was as a mature student that I finally realised my dream. Having specialised in printmaking, I graduated from Grays School of Art in 1997.
One of the things I loved about printmaking was the construction involved in making the plate, especially collagraphs. I also enjoyed the layering that was involved in the printing process. I love to put different elements together and see what develops.
I am currently making images including copper which can be coloured, textured and manipulated as well as paper and collage.
